Retirement Should
Feel Like Freedom
Not Noise & Uncertainty

Even financially successful retirees feel tension navigating:

  • Market volatility and inflation

  • Taxes, RMDs, and healthcare costs

  • Sequence-of-returns risk

  • Lifestyle spending over 25–35 years

  • Legacy and family goals

Not because they’re afraid of “running out of money,”
but because they want to maintain their lifestyle confidently without being forced into unnecessary risk.

You deserve a plan that supports your life, your values, and your future – elegantly and predictably.

Happy retirees in Colorado Springs, CO.

The Lifestyle-First Retirement Framework

We design your retirement in three coordinated layers:

1. Income Layer – Lifestyle Support

We build an income-focused structure designed to:

  • Provide dependable cash flow to support your lifestyle

  • Include planned increases over time to help offset inflation

  • Rely on a deliberate income engine, not daily market movements, to fund your spending

The goal is financial calm: knowing your lifestyle is supported by a plan, not by hope.

2. Protection Layer – Added Confidence (Optional)

For clients who want even greater certainty, we can selectively incorporate fixed index annuities to create additional lifetime income for a portion of assets, while keeping the rest of the portfolio flexible and available.

3. Growth Layer – Long-Term Wealth & Legacy

Once lifestyle income is secured, remaining assets are positioned for measured, disciplined growth to support:

  • Future purchasing power

  • Healthcare and long-term care needs

  • Multi-decade retirement horizons

  • Charitable and family legacy objectives

This layered design avoids unnecessary risk while keeping your wealth productive.

A Clear, Elegant Framework for Retirement Success

1. Discover

We clarify your:

  • Lifestyle goals and spending needs

  • Existing assets and current strategy

  • Tax profile and Social Security situation

  • Family, legacy, and values-based priorities

2. Design

You receive a tailored retirement income map showing:

  • How income is generated and structured to increase over time

  • Tax optimization opportunities (RMD planning, Roth strategies, IRMAA awareness)

  • Recommended timing for Social Security

  • How growth assets support long-term goals

  • How your estate strategy integrates with your financial plan

3. Implement & Steward

We implement the strategy, monitor the income engine, and proactively adjust as life, tax rules, or markets change.
You stay informed and in control – never overwhelmed.

Without a coordinated strategy, even high-net-worth households can experience:

  • Unnecessary tax drag and IRMAA surprises

  • Taking more market risk than their lifestyle actually requires

  • Assets used inefficiently across accounts

  • Lifestyle flexibility eroding over time

  • Legacy plans that are unclear or misaligned with their wishes

  • Missed opportunities to grow wealth after income needs are already met

Good planning doesn’t just seek to preserve wealth –
it helps prevent lifestyle disruption and future regret.

A no-pressure, high-clarity conversation about aligning your income, taxes, and legacy with the life you want to live.

Common Questions

Who do you work with? People age 50 and older who are within about ten years of retirement or already retired, generally with $250,000 or more in investable assets. Most live in the Colorado Springs area, and we have clients in Hawaii via our Kona branch and other states via video call.

What does "retirement income first" mean? Most retirement portfolios are built to grow and then sold off piece by piece to create income. We do it the other way around. We first build a portfolio designed to produce income from dividends and, where appropriate, insurance contracts, so the plan does not depend on selling shares in a down market. Growth is added after the income plan is in place. Dividends are not guaranteed and can be reduced or eliminated by the companies that pay them.

Are you a fiduciary? Zach Poitra has a Series 65 license is an investment adviser representative of Foundations Investment Advisors, LLC. When providing investment advice, Foundations and its representatives are required to act in a fiduciary capacity under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940.

How are you paid? For investment management we charge a single annual fee based on the assets we manage, and no commissions on the investments in your portfolio. The fee schedule is published below. Insurance products such as annuities pay a commission from the insurance company, which we disclose before you buy. Flat-fee planning is available for people who want a plan but prefer to manage their own investments.

$200,000 to $749,999: 1.70% per year. $750,000 to $1,499,999: 1.35%. $1,500,000 to $3,000,000: 1.25%. Over $3,000,000: 1.00%.

Flat-fee planning: $2,000 to $6,000 depending on complexity.

What happens in the first meeting? We call it an Income Design Session. It is a 60-minute conversation about what you have, what you want retirement to look like, and whether there is a gap between the two. You leave with a clear picture of where you stand. There is no cost and no obligation.

Do I have to live in Colorado Springs? No. Most of our meetings with local clients are in person at our office on Goddard Street, and we meet clients in other states by video call.

Do you do estate planning? Yes. We help clients set up a living revocable trust, pour-over will, and powers of attorney, with attorney review, as part of their overall plan. Details and pricing are on our estate planning page. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice.
